Being unable to fall asleep, waking often and rising unrested.
Sleep problems often go together with anxiety and stress; a mind that will not stop in bed feeds the fear of sleeplessness. Although sleeping pills can help in the short term, the lasting solution is a behavioural approach.
Cognitive-behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) includes sleep restriction, stimulus control and sleep hygiene education. A clear improvement is usually reached in 6–8 sessions.
